Find the right school for you
By pursuing an education in Virginia specific to long term care, you have taken the first step toward creating a place for yourself in this diverse and dynamic career field. Before you select from the long term care schools in Virginia, it is important to be aware of which degree options are available to you and what levels of education are required for licensure in the state.
The Virginia Board of Nursing is responsible for licensing practical nurses and registered nurses, both of which are exciting, progressive long term care professions. Licensed practical nurses must have completed either a 1-year certificate program or a 2-year associate degree in general nursing studies. It should be noted, however, that most healthcare facilities in Virginia prefer that licensed practical nurses have an associate degree, rather than a certificate. Because registered nurses have more responsibility, they must have a 4-year bachelor degree.
With the completion of online or campus-based programs, would-be long term care professionals in Arlington, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Alexandria, Portsmouth, and Hampton, Virginia can look forward to dynamic, evolving careers in some of the largest healthcare facilities in the state, including Lynchburg General Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital the University of Virginia Medical Center, and Saint Mary’s Hospital.
