How to Become an MRI Technician in Virginia

In Virginia, MRI technician training is designed with the intent to give students informative and comprehensive training about MRI technology. This type of clinical training is a requirement for graduation, as it gives students the ability to enhance their knowledge and apply the principles of MRI technology that they learned while in school. By the time you have completed an MRI technician training program, you will be ideally suited to an entry-level position in Virginia as an MRI technician.

In Virginia, you will be assigned to a hospital or healthcare facility where you will work under the direct supervision of a qualified, certified MRI technician. The experience and education of this technician will give you real-world exposure to learn the skills that you could not learn in school simply by reading a book.

Some of the things that you will be taught include:

  • How to ensure safety in the workplace and reduce radiation exposure to patients
  • Laws in Virginia regarding patient safety and privacy
  • How to use position to achieve maximum MRI imaging
  • Standard policies in an MRI department

While you are not required to have a state license for this profession in Virginia, certification is most definitely a stipulation of employment. Employers in Virginia prefer to hire MRI technicians that have been certified by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
