Virginia Pharmacy Tech Certificate – VA

Steps to Becoming a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia

1.  Find a university, community college, tech or trade school with the right online or campus-based Virginia pharmacy technician certification program for you.  Formal training and certification will help you pass the PTCB exam, and or the Virginia Pharmacy Technician Exam.  There are 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year certificate and associate’s degree programs for you to choose from.

2.  After graduating from one of those Virginia pharmacy technician certification programs, you have two options of how you can become a certified Pharmacy Technician in Virginia.  One option is you can register with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and pass the Virginia Pharmacy Technician Exam (ExCPT).  Your second option is you can simply register to take the PTCB exam, study for it, and pass it. There are many study guides you can get on paper-back or via the internet, and are highly recommended in order to help you know what will be on the exam, and how to be prepared to pass it. Visit this website for all the details on fees, test sites, and other registration requirements at: http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/pharmacy/pharmacy_forms.htm#Technician

3.  After you have passed one of those two exams (or both), your Pharmacy Technician Registration application will be processed, and you will be certified and licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia.
