Virginia phlebotomy certificates can also be obtained through professional associations. The requirements for certification vary based upon the association, but are typically course experience or on-the-job training.
According to the Virginia Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, entities within Virginia are working together to form a single source credentialing agency. Policies pertaining to new certification and re-certification have not been finalized.

Since the state of Virginia does is not a regulated occupation, there is no state licensure renewal requirement.
