Washington Certified Nurse Assistant Training Programs

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a healthcare professional who works on the front lines with patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse, assisting patients with their daily lives. CNAs perform such activities as bathing, dressing, toileting and feeding patients, measuring their vital signs and helping them move from one position to another. It can be a rewarding career and Washington has a number of CNA schools that train nursing assistants so that they are eligible to take the Washington State Nursing Assistant exam, which is mandatory for employment in the State of Washington.

Typically, Washington CNA training consists of both classroom and clinical curriculum. As part of the clinical section, students work under the direction of a registered nurse perhaps in a nursing home or long-term care facility. The classroom portion may run for 85 to 120 hours, and, depending upon the school, may be available via online learning.

Admission requirements to CNA schools include a high school diploma or GED certificate, a copy of a current driver’s license or ID, proficiency in English, a Washington State Patrol criminal background check that is no older than six months, and evidence of a negative tuberculosis skin test.
