Certified Nurse Assistant Training in West Virginia

The majority of the West Virginia Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training programs have pre-educational requirements that must be completed prior to entering a program. West Virginia offers both online and vocational training to become a CNA. While the federal requirements for CNA training are slight, West Virginia requires the completion of the state requirements in order to complete an educational program. The completion of an educational program allows graduates to take the certification exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and legally practice in the profession within the state. Renewal of this certification is needed periodically.

West Virginia doesn’t strictly abide by the federal requirements that an educational program to become a CNA must include the complete of 75 hours of academic and clinical training in an educational program. Instead, to become a CNA in West Virginia, training must consist of no less than 120 hours of academic and clinical training. The academic portion of the training program includes courses in anatomy and physiology. These courses cover respiratory systems, musculoskeletal systems, urinary systems, and digestive systems. The cardiovascular system is covered in these courses as well.

Excretory procedures course are needed to become a CNA as well. These courses teach students proper ways to handle specimens and identify vital aspects of the urinary and digestive systems. Courses also cover the practical training needed in the profession, including bed making, procedures for personal patient care, such as dressing and undressing a patient, and nail and hair care.

Through online programs, aspiring C.N.A.s in Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg and Wheeling, West Virginia may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, Wheeling Hospital, Saint Mary's Medical Center and Ruby Memorial Hospital.
