If you are interested in becoming a part of the important field of long term care, the first thing you should do is work on completing a formal education. Although there may be several accredited schools in West Virginia to choose from, you need to choose one that provides a degree program ideally matched to you future professional goals.

Before long term care professionals in West Virginia can be licensed by their respective Boards, they are required to have collegiate-level education. The degree options vary with each given profession. For example, licensed practical nurses need to have at least 12 months of nursing education before they can be licensed, the equivalent of a certificate program or associate degree. Registered nurses are often responsible for overseeing licensed practical nurses, and for this, they are required to have 4 years of nursing study, the equivalent of a bachelor degree.

With the completion of online and campus-based long term care programs, aspiring long term care providers in Parkersburg, Wheeling, Charleston, and Huntington, West Virginia will find themselves more than prepared for dynamic careers in the most well-known medical facilities in the state, including Wheeling Hospital, Charleston Area Medical Center, Ruby Memorial Hospital, and Saint Mary’s Medical Center.
