Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant Training Programs

To become a Certified Nursing Assistant, the state of Wisconsin abides by the federal education requirements. The majority of the educational programs in Wisconsin used to become a Certified Nursing Assistant are offered at colleges and vocational schools. The completion of these programs offers a diploma from a Nursing Assistant program. After receiving a diploma, graduates must then take an exam to acquire the certification needed to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services offers the competency exam needed to become certified.

Most Wisconsin CNA training programs require the completion of 80 to 120 hours in order to graduate with a technical diploma. Classes are offered at most facilities 4 days a week. The general curriculum to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in Wisconsin, include courses in basic nursing skills, personal care, and hygiene care for patients. Communications courses and the legal aspects of the profession are covered in the curriculum as well. Course in research and data collection are often included within the curriculum. Students will undergo training for assessing a patient’s condition, including taking vital signs. Other courses cover how to properly dress patients and maintain a patient’s hygiene. This includes the legal issues of dressing and undressing patients and hair and nail care.

Clinical experience is included in the curriculum to become a Nursing Assistant. Clinical experience is gained under the supervision of a health care professional in a wide range of settings. Common settings for clinical training include rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and hospitals.
