Although this Midwestern state calls itself “America’s Dairyland,” improving healthcare in Wisconsin is a definite priority. Wisconsin has implemented a state health plan, “Healthiest Wisconsin 2010: A Partnership Plan to Improve the Health of the Public” with the help of 200 partners across Wisconsin. The Plan is developed to identify various practices that have shown to be most effective with the goal of improving healthcare for the citizens of Wisconsin.

Medical assistants are an important part of the healthcare team that implements the plan.  The duties of a medical assistant depend upon the size and type of the facility; they work anywhere from hospitals to outpatient facilities to doctors’ and dentists’ practices. After completing medical assisting training in Washington, you will want to become certified as a medical assistant, although not a legal requirement in Wisconsin, it is a desirable credential to many potential employers.

Depending on the Wisconsin medical assistant training program, some of the classes students take may be medical terminology, patient communication, infection control, emergency care, patient history and physicals, patient medications, medical law, medical office professionalism, physiology, basic human anatomy, medical billing and processing insurance claims.
