Occupational Therapy Courses in Wisconsin
All Wisconsin occupational therapy courses are designed around either professional-master’s or combined baccalaureate/master’s degree paths. Interested students should research community colleges and state universities in Mequon, Milwaukee, La Crosse and Madison for individual program details.
Wisconsin occupational therapist programs comprise of numerous classes that may slightly vary between programs. However, all programs feature curriculum that promotes both general science and career specific topics. Some classes found in Wisconsin occupational therapist programs include: human anatomy, assessment of occupational participation, therapeutic interventions, language of medicine, human life cycle, biomechanics and kinesiology, physical dysfunction and pediatrics.
Education does not end with training, examination, certification or licensing for Wisconsin occupational therapists. The Wisconsin DRL stipulates that all licensed OTs must engage in at least 24 hours/points of continuing education every two years to renew occupational therapist license and maintain professional status. These hours are to be properly documented and approved by the DRL to gain legitimacy. All hours must be spent with the goal of enhancing occupational therapy skills and heightening awareness of current trends and changes within the occupational therapist professional spectrum. Although many continuing education opportunities exist, the DRL specifically suggests attending occupational therapist focused: academic courses, seminars, workshops, lectures and conferences. In addition, completing interactive online activities, video-based courses, self-study learning, AOTA article reading and examination, additional certifications in specialized areas of occupational therapy, and involvement in theoretical and clinical research projects are also encouraged.
