Personal Trainer Certification in Wisconsin - WI

Becoming a Personal Trainer in Wisconsin

The first step to becoming a personal trainer is to develop an interest in exercise. Individuals interested in a personal training career usually have some experience in the health and fitness field and then they decide to pursue personal training. Some high schools have fitness and weight lifting training, which may spark a person’s interest in the field.   In Wisconsin, personal trainer certification can be gained through the convenience of accredited online programs.  This extremely cost-effective option can save time while ensuring all the training necessary to find work in Wisconsin.

Although it isn’t necessary, some Individuals may choose to electively pursue additional national certification. Some organizations include the National Council on Strength & Fitness, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, The National Academy of Sports Medicine, and the American Council on Exercise.  Certification exams will require a high school diploma or equivalent diploma. After applying for the examination, the next step is to take and pass the national certification examination. After passing the certification exam and receiving certification, individuals are eligible to practice as a certified personal trainer.

The Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing oversees state professional licenses. Personal training does not require licensure and is not regulated by the state. A profession that is closely related to personal training and requires licensure is the athletic trainer.  It is not uncommon for personal trainers to have “day jobs” that are enhanced by their personal trainer education.  Some additional careers that are licensed include physical therapy, dietician, massage therapists, etc.  For more information on professions that require licensure, contact the Board at:
