Wyoming Medical Assistant Courses – WY

Wyoming is a state with some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery found in the United States. The Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, the Tetons, the Great Plains, the Big Horn Mountains, the Black Hills and the Sierra Madre range are all found in Wyoming. Although it’s not the most populous state, the large influx of tourists year round here means that ensuring adequate healthcare services is important. One of the healthcare positions considered “in demand” is that of a medical assistant or medical office assistant. Medical assistants are an important part of the healthcare team, whether in an individual medical practice, a hospital, a clinic or other medical facility.

The University of Wyoming along with approximately a dozen colleges, technical institutions and community colleges comprise the state’s education system for higher learning. To meet the need for Wyoming medical assistant training, courses of study designed to enable a student to become a medical office assistant or medical assistant are one of the newer programs being offered at some of the institutions.

The medical assisting training in Wyoming ranges from two-year programs to a 20-week training programs. The following curriculum for a medical assistant includes both lecture and laboratory courses: medical law and ethics, patient reception and registration, medical billing and health insurance processing, nutrition, general psychology, general biology, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, keyboarding, records management, procedures for medical offices, integrated applications as well as communications courses and English composition. Front office software applications such as spreadsheets, database applications, word processing as well as a records management course covering the basic rules for the storage and retrieval of medical records, as well as typical equipment used, are usually part of the curriculum.
