Health care professionals looking for Wyoming nursing informatics certification must contact the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and obtain an “Informatics Nursing Certification” application. This form will insist that applicants meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Hold a current registered nurse’s license and two years of experience working as a registered nurse.
- Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing or related field thereof.
- Completion of thirty hours of continuing education in informatics.
- Completion of 200-2,000 hours of practical nurse informatics experience.
An initial certification of fee of between $270 and $390 must be included with application. Once application is submitted and approved by the ANCC, applicant will receive an “Eligibility Notice” allowing the applicant to sit for an ANCC administered national competency examination in nurse informatics. This exam will cover topics in: system life cycle, human factors, information technology, information management and knowledge generation, professional practice, trends and issues, and models and theories in nurse informatics. If examination is successfully passed, the ANCC will grant a nursing informatics certificate proving active certification. ANCC certification is valid for five years. The renewal process will require a renewal fee of between $200 and $350 along with proof of participation in 75 hours of continuing education in nurse informatics within the five years prior to renewal.
