Yoga Instructor Income in Washington - WA

Yoga Teacher Salaries in Washington

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts yoga teaching among fitness professions and notes that employment in the field, as a whole, is on the rise. Yoga is particularly popular in Washington’s metropolitan areas. Many Seattle neighborhoods from Capitol Hill to Phinney Ridge to Fremont have yoga centers, teaching a variety of specialty classes to young and old alike.

The average yoga instructor salary in Washington is $43,000 yearly according to recent job postings.  The actual picture is complex.  Some people do make a living full time as yoga instructors; many positions, however, are part-time.  The hourly rate can be excellent, but fitness centers may only offer a limited number of hours.  Skilled teachers will sometimes put in hours at a variety of facilities.  Pro Fitness Club, which has branches in Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond, is one example of a high profile employer.  They recently posted for one class a week.  Centers may pay at a set rate, but class size sometimes determines earnings.  If one wants to earn good money as a yoga instructor, it pays to be visible within the field.  This means more than just teaching a quality class.  One might also need to spend some time getting the word out.  Many yoga program graduates go into private practice and build their own client base.
