Acupuncture, which is an ancient Oriental medical practice, is used today to treat a variety of illnesses and conditions. Numerous acupuncture schools in New Jersey exist to educate those who would like to be New Jersey licensed acupuncturists. The proper education in acupuncture can be obtained through a college or university program.
New Jersey requires that all of its acupuncturists become licensed within the state before they are allowed to practice. In New Jersey, one must hold at least a bachelor degree from a college or university that is accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the U.S. Department of Education. There are plenty of these accredited colleges and universities located within New Jersey or in the surrounding area. In addition to a bachelor degree, all applicants for licensure must have completed acupuncture studies from an acupuncture program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). Examinations must be passed and a state application for licensure must be completed as well before an acupuncturist license will be granted in New Jersey.
