Acupuncture Studies in Oregon - OR
Acupuncture training in Oregon consists of a four-year master’s degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine or a master’s in acupuncture. Training programs are either full-time or part-time, and include courses in several complementary Oriental Medicine fundamentals.
In 2004, acupuncture studies in Oregon included a Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The doctorate program is available to graduates who are licensed to practice acupuncture. The 1,200 hours of additional training takes approximately two years to complete. The 4,000 hours required in this program gives the student the most comprehensive training available.
Once you have completed training, the state of Oregon requires anyone practicing acupuncture to obtain a state license. The Oregon Medical Board (OMB) legal statutes require that all students who want to practice acupuncture must complete a qualifying program, pass an exam, and receive a state license.
To be eligible for a temporary license in Oregon, you must meet all the requirements for licensure with the exception of National Certification Committee for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification. This temporary license will allow you to obtain additional clinical training under the supervision of a Board approved supervisor for twelve months. For a permanent license, you need NCCAOM certification.
