In the state of Alaska, you’re mostly looking at distance learning and online institutions to get your veterinary technician degree because campus based schools in Alaska are few and far between.  Most programs will give you your associate’s degree as a Veterinary Technician, though others may offer you simply a career certificate or diploma. You learn emergency procedures, how to nurse young animals, how to read x-rays, ethical concerns, and much more.

License Renewal for Alaska Veterinary Technicians

On December 31 of every even-numbered year, all licenses will expire, unless your first license was issued within the 90 days prior to that date, in which case your license will be valid through to the next official expiration date on December 31 two years following. You’ll receive a notification 30 days before your license will expire to remind you to renew. It will be your responsibility following the notice to make sure you complete the proper paperwork.  You’ll need to complete 5 hours of continuing education units and provide verification of such. A renewal application is available on the same website as the application materials, as mentioned above.
