Dentistry is a well-respected career that requires years of specialized training. For students who wish to discover how to become a dentist in South Carolina, the place to start is the South Carolina Board of Dentistry. This agency regulates and licenses all dentists working in South Carolina. In order to work as a dentist in this state, one must first attend undergraduate school, then attend and graduate from an accredited dental school. After graduation, candidates for dentist licensure in South Carolina must pass the National Board Examination approved by the board. Currently, South Carolina accepts the Southern Regional Testing Agency (SRTA) and American Dental Licensure Examination (ADLEX) or NERB examinations offered by the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners. In addition, all candidates must pass the South Carolina Jurisprudence Examination.
