Becoming a Midwife in Montana – MT

In order to learn how to become a midwife in Montana, you need to become familiar with state licensing requirements. The Montana Alternative Health Care Board licenses all direct-entry midwives. To obtain this license, you must:

• Take and pass the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) certification exam with a score of 75 or higher
• Complete all educational requirements
• Complete supervised practice (100 prenatal exams, observation of 40 births, and primary midwife of 25 births)
• Pay all fees (application: $300, license: $200, NARM exam: $800)
