Delaware Certified Nurse Assistant Training Programs

In order to become a CNA in Delaware, students must go through a program approved by the Division of Long Term Care Residents Program (DLTCRP). There are twenty-six on-site CNA programs in Delaware, which are offered through high schools, private organizations, nursing homes, and community colleges. Though none of these programs are fully available online, many of them do offer the opportunity to take specific classes online.

Before they can begin their CNA programs, students must undergo a drug test and criminal background check. They should also have a high school diploma or GED, show a strong record of achievement in all their classes, and have no criminal history. If they are already licensed in Delaware or another state, their license should be in good standing with that state.

Aspiring CNAs can expect to take classes in pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, biology, and possibly organic chemistry in their CNA programs. If they obtain a certificate from a community college, they may also have to blend their CNA classes with general education classes, especially if they are going for an Associate's degree.

If an online program is more ideal for a soon-to-be CNA, they should look for programs that are approved by other state nursing boards. Online programs offer the same curriculum as traditional CNA programs, but they may also offer students with more flexibility in terms of scheduling and clinical locations.

Through either online or campus based programs, aspiring C.N.A.s in Wilmington, Dover and Newark, Delaware may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Bayhealth Medical Center, Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital.
