Dentist School in British Columbia - BC
When searching for dental schools in British Columbia, you’ll find there is currently just one school that offers a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. However, the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia recognizes DMD programs from other accredited schools throughout Canada and the United States. The average dentistry training program will take students four years to complete, with the first two years consisting of general dentistry courses in a classroom setting and the final two years in integrated group practices to hone a student’s clinical and practical skills.
Following graduation with your DMD degree, you must take the national examination given by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB). If you have completed your studies to become a dentist at a non-recognized school, you will also have to take the Eligibility Examination given by the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry. After completing your general dental studies, you may want to pursue continuing education degree programs in Canada. These will allow you to specialize as a dentist in British Columbia in fields such as pediatric dentistry, dental public health, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral pathology, oral radiology or oral medicine. You must complete the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE) in your chosen field before becoming licensed to practice that specialized dentistry in British Columbia.
