Dentist School in Mississippi - MS

All prospective dentists in the state of Mississippi must graduate from an accredited dental school before earning a license to practice in Mississippi. Admission to dental schools usually occurs following completion of a pre-dental bachelor degree program. If you are still in high school and contemplating becoming a dentist, courses that would be helpful for you to take include chemistry, biology, algebra, physics, geometry, trigonometry, nutrition, English, computer skills, physical education, and any specialized education available for those wishing to pursue health or medical occupations. Prior to entrance into dental school, you will be required to show completion of a bachelor degree program, and then apply to the dental school of your choice through the American Association of Dental Schools Application Service, which requires you to take their dental admissions examination.

Programs for general dentistry typically take about four years to complete, and will earn the student a DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) or DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree. Continuing education degree programs are available following completion of your general dentistry degree requirements. These programs will allow you to specialize in a field such as endodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry or prosthodontics. Many students choose to spend an additional year or two in dental school and get these credentials, as it improves their employment opportunities.
