Dentist School in New Mexico - NM

New Mexico has a number of dental schools that grant Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.). The programs typically are four year, full time programs. Admission to dental school, like medical school, is extremely competitive and prospective students are advised to prepare early.

To optimize their chances, New Mexico applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 as well as a GPA of 2.75 in the core science classes of biology, chemistry and physics. Other general requirements for admissions include attaining a Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) score of 18 or higher on the academic average, reading comprehension, and perceptual ability sections.  Three letters of recommendation must also be submitted, one of which must be from a pre-dental advisor or a professor of science. As for the other letters of recommendation, it is preferable that they be from a practicing dentist in New Mexico or someone who can attest to the character and work ethic of the applicant.

Some dental schools in New Mexico also require that a prospective student pass a criminal background check before being considered for admittance to the dental program.
