Dentist School in South Dakota - SD
The South Dakota Dental Association claims that a shortage of dentists is expected in the state and across the country over the next ten to twenty years. Before you decide to attend dental school, however, consider your own personality and character traits to determine if you and dentistry will be a good fit. Are you detail oriented? Do you like working with people? Are you good at math and science? If so, this is the perfect time to enroll in dental schools in South Dakota and all over the United States. The American Dental Association lists accredited dental schools that are accepted by the South Dakota State Board of Dentistry. Admission to dental school requires three to four years of pre-dental undergraduate courses, such as science and mathematics. Dental school takes an additional four years, at which time you will graduate with either a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree.
If you wish to specialize in a particular field, you may decide to pursue continuing education degree programs. These specializations take an additional two to six years of study, and prepare the dentist to practice in fields such as pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics and oral pathology.
