According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the salaries for registered nurses in the District of Columbia are very competitive. The BLS reports that the national average salary for registered nurses is $65,130. The average Washington, DC RN salary is considerably higher at $73,040, a full 12.1% above the national average.
As in other areas throughout the country, salaries will vary based on employment setting as well, with the highest salaries reported in general and surgical hospitals, and employment services. Salaries will also be higher with increased education, increased experience, and may vary based on specialty.
RN Licensure Renewal and Continuing Education in the District of Columbia
The professional license to practice nursing in the District of Columbia must be renewed every two years. The license may be renewed either online or by a submitted paper application. In addition to continued practice, the registered nurse is required to complete 24 hours of continuing education over a two year period. The continuing education units are reported through an online reporting service and are maintained online.
