To become a dental hygienist in Georgia, graduating from an approved dental hygienist program is required. Typically these programs are 2-3 years in length and lead to an associate’s degree. There are a number of dental hygienist schools in Georgia. Be sure the program you pursue is approved through the American Dental Association (ADA). Some choose to earn a bachelor’s degree to provide a competitive edge and open opportunities in corporate sales and promotion for the dental field.

Georgia Dental Hygienist License Renewals and Continuing Education

A Georgia dental hygienist is issued a two-year license. During each two year period the Georgia Board of Dentistry requires the completion of 22 continuing education hours in order for a license to be renewed. At least half of these hours must be completed in person through courses and seminars. Some of these hours need to fall into specific categories, so contact the board for approved continuing education coursework and practices.
