Become a Medical Transcriptionist in Hawaii - HI

Hawaii Medical Transcription Training Programs

Medical transcriptionists who choose to become certified or registered may do so at little cost. Certification and registration presents individuals in the field with greater employment opportunities, with several facilities offering to pay for the cost of exams. In Hawaii, medical transcriptionists may become certified after two years of experience in an acute care setting within a hospital. During this time, individuals will have become proficient with many of the job duties that are required, including but not limited to, reporting, medical case histories, and use of a diverse number of dictating devices. Certification requires successful completion of the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) exam.

Individuals who have not yet worked in the field need not worry, however. They can also increase their marketability by taking the Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) examination. Both exams are administered by Thomson Prometric testing services and approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). Exams may be taken on site at one of Prometric’s testing facilities or online at their Web site. Examination fees run from $195 for members of AHDI to take the CMT, to $275 for those without membership. The RMT exam costs $120 for members and $200 for non-members. It is beneficial to enter a program for medical transcription training in Hawaii as well. This type of formal program best prepares individuals for this exciting field.
