The AAPA requires completion of a comprehensive medical program through any one of the physician assistant schools in Hawaii that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. The medical program is a intensive, educating students in the diagnosis and treatment of medical issues. Clinical medicine and emergency room procedures are also given concentration. PA curriculums take an average of 26 months to complete if the student attends full time. Prospective students can choose from 140 different accredited programs available in the United States. In addition to the coursework, physicians assistants are typically required to participate in one year clinical rotations in a hospital environment.
