Health Information Managment Course in New Mexico - NM

New Mexico has been an innovative state when it comes to health informatics. The New Mexico Health Information Collaborative (NMHIC) was established in 2004, when the idea of health informatics was in its infancy. Today, this organization is a health information exchange network for providers, insurers, employers, payers, state agencies and consumers. It is clear that health informatics is a popular discipline in New Mexico, and it only stands to reason that there are many opportunities for careers in this medical field there. For those with the proper health informatics degree in New Mexico, the sky’s the limit.

Most positions for health information administrators (HIA) or those in health information management (HIM) require a four year bachelor degree. If you hold an associate degree in health information management, you may qualify to study for a year to two year long certificate program. Following graduation, most employers in New Mexico look for RHIA credentials, which signify that you have passed the Registered Health Information Administrator examination. This credential is looked upon as a quality standard in the field. Currently, there are HIA/HIM positions available for those with RHIA certification at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, CHRISTUS St Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, and MSI International in Roswell.
