Health Information Technology Certification in Ohio - OH

The Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification in Ohio can be earned through education, examination and experience. The Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM), a national professional organization for health information management (HIM) professionals, certifies qualified individuals.   RHIT certification verifies to employers that the health information technician is capable of ensuring the quality of electronic medical records, including completeness and accuracy, and has demonstrated proficiency in using computer applications for assembling and analyzing patient data, resulting in improved patient care and lowered costs. To be eligible for RHIT certification, a candidate must have graduated with an associate’s degree, or be in the final semester, from a Health Information Management (HIM) education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).  In Ohio, students may be required to submit to a criminal background check conducted by The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification.  Testing for infectious diseases and verification of updated immunizations may also be required for admission to some schools in Ohio. The RHIT certification examination itself will cover healthcare data management, legal issues and healthcare, quality management, health statistics, coding and information technology and systems. To take the examination, an application, along with a check for $229 for AHIMA members or $299 for non-members should be submitted to:
