How to Become a Chiropractor in Georgia

Georgia currently has around 3100 chiropractors—it may sound like a lot, but in a state of nearly 10 million people, that’s just one chiropractor for every 3,700 people. With the growing interest in natural medicine and increasing number of senior citizens, the demand for chiropractors is sure to increase as well. Consequently, there are many opportunities for chiropractors in Georgia.

First, though, you’ll have to complete education requirements: you need at least two years of undergraduate education, plus a doctor of chiropractic degree from an approved four-year chiropractic school.

If you have these educational qualifications, you’ll have to take the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners examination, covering topics such as spinal anatomy, diagnostic imaging, chiropractic technique, and x-ray interpretation. You can also take supplementary examinations in acupuncture or physiotherapy if you want to receive special certification in those areas.

Once you’ve received your license to practice chiropractic medicine, you’ll have to decide what type of workplace you prefer. You could take a salaried position at a large medical facility like Atlanta Medical Center or Grady Memorial Hospital, join a small practice, or start your own.

Whatever you choose, the first step towards becoming a chiropractor in Georgia is completing your education and training requirements.
