Pediatric Nursing Jobs in Oregon - OR
Even though nursing represents America’s largest healthcare profession, it also suffers from the highest demand and the greatest shortages of eligible professionals to fulfill the need. Pediatric nurses (PNs), along with pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs), are no exception. As advanced practice registered nurses, PNPs are qualified to prescribe medicine. In addition, about half of the nation’s states allow PNPs to practice independently. Some clinics, in fact, have staff comprised entirely of nurse practitioners.
Registered PNs in Oregon must have Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees, and PNPs should have Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees, along with registration as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Although the ongoing nursing shortage is problematic, it also provides career opportunities for pediatric nurses and pediatric nurse practitioners.
In February 2011, figures at Indeed.com revealed over 350 PN and PNP job openings for various facilities and locations around the state of Oregon. In 2008, the Kaiser Family Foundation listed 58 hospitals and 36 nursing facilities in Oregon. Some of Oregon’s top employers are Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center, Oregon Health & Science University Hospital, Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Salem Hospital.
