Integrative Medicine School in Florida - FL

Although medical schools in Florida are beginning to offer some courses covering complementary and alternative medical therapies, it is still more common for a practitioner of integrative medicine in Florida to obtain a degree in a traditional medical field (e.g., physician, nurse, or osteopath) and then supplement the foundation of conventional medical treatment and protocols with one or more non-traditional or alternative therapies. As far as education goes, the requirements for medical degrees involve graduation with a four-year degree that focuses on biology or science, then several years of medical school, and residency training. Board certification exams and licensure with the state are also required.

The integrative medicine modalities also require training; many, such as acupuncture, massage therapy, and chiropractic medicine also require licensure. For example, to become a licensed acupuncturist in Florida, one must be at least 18 years old and have completed 60 credits from an accredited college or university prior to enrolling in an authorized acupuncture program. This program of study takes four years to complete.  Once the requirements of the program are fulfilled, the candidate must also complete a board-approved national certification process. Persons specializing in integrative medicine complete many years of education in their chosen modalities in order to practice.
