It depends greatly on what program you enroll in as to how long you'll be in school. Some programs offered by Kentucky pharmacy technician schools may take months, some a year, some up to two.

Since the kind of training you require depends greatly on where you'll be working, schooling in many programs consists mostly of learning about drugs and drug interaction, medical law, and then mostly hands-on work.

Kentucky does not at the moment require Pharmacy Technicians to pursue continued education, but more and more states are requiring it as time goes by.

If, however, you become a Certified Pharmacy Technician or a certified member of another national or regional Pharmacy Technician organization, you'll have to complete some CE to maintain your status.

To remain a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you are expected to complete twenty hours of CE every two years. Through organizations like the NPTA this can be done quite easily and cheaply, and Kentucky has a number of schools that offer cheap CE programs to Pharmacy Techs that need them.
