Kentucky Ultrasound Technician Schools - KY
Diagnostic medical sonographers, or ultrasound technicians, are trained in the use of technical instruments that take images of bodily systems through the use of sound waves. This highly focused field requires specialized training, which has prompted many to explore the many ultrasound schools in Kentucky. These schools train the ultrasound technician or sonographer to work in various medical settings including hospitals, outpatient facilities, and private physician’s offices.
Most ultrasound schools in Kentucky offer an associate of applied science degree. Many will also offer specialized certificate programs for various technical specialties (such as vascular technology) in addition to associate degree programs. In addition to a general sonography class, other schools provide schooling for cardiac diagnostic sonographers and noninvasive vascular technology. The state of Kentucky does not require anything beyond the proper schooling for its ultrasound technicians, but many employers prefer that their ultrasound techs become registered through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. This involves taking an examination following graduation from your college ultrasound studies. You can take specific tests in general ultrasound technology or a specialty including abdomen, breast, pediatric, OB/GYN, or cardiac sonography. Depending upon the test that you take, you will be awarded the credentials RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer), RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer), or RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist).
