To become a dental hygienist in Maine, one must become licensed in their profession by the State of Maine Board of Dental Examiners (www.mainedental.org) by completing a board approved education training program, pass a comprehensive written examination, pass a comprehensive clinical examination, and a board-administered jurisprudence examination. In addition, potential dental hygienist must complete a background check to ensure that they are of good professional reputation and standing. Proof of completion of a CPR certification course is also required and on-line CPR courses are not accepted.
