Maryland Pharmacy Tech School – MD

Job opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians are on the rise in the state of Maryland and positions for those who have already obtained their certification online or through Maryland pharmacy technician schools are at an advantage.  Within the next five years the employment rate for this occupation is foreseen to expand rapidly and many states including Maryland are starting to make requirements for the position of a Pharmacy Technician to have obtained a certificate in order to ensure the knowledge of standardized basic skills.  Many pharmacy technicians have the ability to advance up into supervisor positions with hard work over time but will need specialized training in order to become a pharmacist.

A great majority of pharmacy technicians in Maryland obtain training through hands on experience but most employers would prefer to hire those who have completed formal training and have obtained certification.  Most educational programs in Maryland for a pharmacy technician require classroom and lab work focusing on a wide variety of subjects including medical and pharmaceutical terminology, law and ethics, record keeping, and mathematics.  Many hospitals, vocational or technical colleges, community colleges, and proprietary schools provide some sort of formal education programs and some training programs include experience with an internship.  In Maryland there are only three accredited programs for becoming a Pharmacy Technician;  Anne Arundel Community College, Baltimore City Community College, and Community College of Baltimore County.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Pharmacy Techs in Baltimore, Columbia, Silver Spring and Ellicot City, Maryland may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Franklin Square Hospital Center, Holy Cross Hospital, John Hopkins Medicine and Prince George’s Hospital Center.
