An entry-level veterinary technician is expected to graduate from a 2-year associate's program online or through campus based Maryland vet tech schools. One may choose to further their career by graduating from a 4-year program, which would result in a bachelor's degree. The Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) is a committee within the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) that is responsible for accrediting veterinary technician educational programs. Currently, Maryland has one school that is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities. One would receive an associate's degree upon graduation from this program.
Continuing Educational Requirements for Veterinary Technician in Maryland
In order to maintain your registration status as a veterinary technician in the state of Maryland, one must complete 24 hours of continuing education credits within a three year period. Also, a $50 re-registration fee is required at this time. Examples of continuing education credits include conference attendance, seminars, workshops, and online self studies. The RACE program reviews courses and provides approval as an accepted continuing education course for professions within a veterinarian team.
