Massachusetts Healthcare Informatics School - MA

CCNE and NLNAC Accreditation

You will have a vast wealth of nursing informatics schools in Massachusetts to choose from, but the most important thing to look at, besides the curriculum, is the accreditation of the school. If the school does not have accreditation, you simply do not want to choose that school.

The ANCC and the HIMSS require that your school be accredited by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). If you overlook this step, it means that you cannot sit for any of the certification tests of the ANCC or HIMSS, so you definitely want to make sure that you confirm accreditation before you attend a particular school.

Educational Degrees

Now, you need to figure out what type of educational degree that you want to go after. To get the RN status, though, you need to have at least a bachelor’s degree, a 4-year degree. You need this level of education to sit for the NCLEX, the ANCC test, and any HIMSS credential in nursing.

Many Massachusetts nursing informatics programs also have a master’s degree option. The master’s degree is optional at this point, but there is no doubt that this type of degree will give you a lot more room for advancement and preference in this field. It is an additional 2-year degree, and you should at least consider completing it in the future.

After you have one of these degrees, you can complete a nursing informatics certificate course, which is usually about 1-year. This course is specific to your profession because it teaches you about the technology behind nursing and how that makes nursing more effective.

It is very probable that any program you take will have an internship requirement. For the most part, this is essentially something that you need to pay close attention to. Internships give you the benefit of learning from others in your field and watching how they perform their jobs, and so much of what you will learn during the internship simply cannot be taught behind the walls of a college. This is also a good chance to show employers that you can be a valuable asset to their healthcare team.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Nurses in Health Informatics in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Cambridge and Lowell, Massachusetts may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Massachusetts General Hospital, Winchester Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Marlborough Hospital.
