Ultrasound Technician Schools in Massachusetts - MA
Massachusetts Ultrasound Technician Education
Ultrasound technicians (sonographers) are not licensed in this state and can gain most, if not all, of their experience through internship programs offered by Massachusetts ultrasound technician schools. Advancement in their field, however, is most certainly guaranteed if they seek certification and registration through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). ARDMS has a very sophisticated system of examinations and certifications that can provide the credentials a sonographer needs to build a career in ultrasound technology.
Currently there are 3 associate degree programs in medical sonography in Massachusetts, and one certificate program—all at community colleges. There is also a certificate program in medical sonography at a major medical center in the Boston area. All of these programs provide the didactic and clinical training necessary to qualify for ARDMS certification in a number of areas.
In addition to these site-based programs, there are a number of external degree programs and certificate programs that students can access. Any external degree or certificate option must have a substantial clinical component and an internship or externship that is integral to the program. The ARDMS looks for sonographers who have considerable experience with actual diagnostic cases before qualifying for any of their specialty exams.
