There are four Minnesota ultrasound techician schools that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).  Of these schools, an associate's degree is offered by three schools, and one school offers a certificate upon graduation.  One particular institution offers a program in diagnostic medical sonography that is 70 credit hours with a 6-month clinical portion.  A full-time student that follows the recommended curriculum outline will graduate in 24 months from this program.  Another school offers a specialized program that is an 18-month echocardiography program. 

One attractive feature of this school is that the echocardiography lab is one of the largest echo laboratories in the world, along with state-of-the-art equipment.  Specifically, this program is a 40 hour per week program.  The educational schedule is 8 hours per day and 5 days per week.  Since these programs are accredited, one would be able to take the take the appropriate professional certification examinations offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) upon graduation.  This organization administers the registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) credential, as well as specialty credentials.
