Minnesota Vet Tech Salaries
Interestingly, the largest city did not report the highest wage. Minneapolis is easily the major metropolis on the list of areas, but Rochester boosts a higher annual salary. Perhaps the presence of research facilities in Rochester is the driving force for the higher wages?
According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development www.positivelyminnesota.com the greatest growth for the profession until 2016 will be in the seven county Minneapolis – St. Paul area. A 57% increase is projected for that geographic are of the state. At an anticipated increase of 32%, Central Minnesota also will see great growth.
Professional Associations
Minnesota has one of the largest and most active veterinary technician associations in the country. For its members, the Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians www.mavt.org strives to provide quality continuing education, encourage accurate and informative communication with the public and the veterinary community, and represent the veterinary technicians of Minnesota in legislative issues that affect the profession.
The MVMA – Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association www.mvma.org has recently agreed to cooperative communication with the MVTA. The two groups are pooling their resources to work on a legislative issue.
Also lending support to the veterinary technicians of Minnesota is the national organization, NAVTA (National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America www.navta.net). NAVTA has a network of representatives from each state that provides an avenue for technicians to converse with other techs around the country. These conversations generally revolve around utilization issues and legislative issues that the profession is facing. Talking with others in the same situation allows for better brainstorming for change as well as networking for sharing of resources.
