Veterinary Technician Schools in Montana

Anyone looking to enroll in a Montana vet tech school may be disappointed to find that there is currently none in existence. However, since a degree in veterinary technician or technology is not an educational requirement to practice in the state, all hope is not lost. Actually, there is a state university that offers a pre-veterinary program in veterinary molecular biology laboratory. This unique program is part of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. Therefore students that complete required coursework can qualify to gain admittance into veterinary schools in nearby Colorado, California, Oregon, and Washington where degree options are available. In addition, students can also earn career diplomas, certificates of completion, and associate degrees or higher by taking advantage of distance learning and online education schools that instruct in majors like animal care, veterinary assistance, and veterinary technology.

Although optional, employers will typically prefer veterinary technicians that are nationally certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). In order to gain certification as a registered laboratory animal technician (RLAT), students will need to first either earn an associate degree with two years of laboratory animal science experience or earn a bachelor degree with one year of laboratory animal science experience.
