Initial Education
Physical Therapy Assistants in Nebraska can practice with a minimum of an Associate's degree. Nebraska's Associate's degree programs offered through physical therapy assistant schools focus on therapeutic exercise, human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, physical agents, CPR, orthotics, prosthetics, wellness, and disease prevention. This curriculum is accompanied by general education classes and a clinical externship, which students complete toward the end of their study.

The clinical externship normally lasts four months, and can be completed after students have finished all their classes. Students practice under the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist, gaining experience in one or more areas of interest.

Post-degree Education
Nebraska's Physical Therapist Assistants are required to obtain 10 continuing competency hours for every 24 month licensing period. They can use these hours as a means for gaining more education, which will help them stay current with the changes in their field.

CCHs can come in the form of classes, educational programs, educational seminars, lectures, and conferences sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association, Nebraska Physical Therapy Association, American Osteopathic Association, or another State-approved organization.
