Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program in Minnesota - MN

A neonatal nurse practitioner program in Minnesota prepares individuals for work in renowned medical facilities in the state such as St. Mary’s Hospital, United Hospital, Children’s of Minnesota and Abbott Northwestern Hospital.  Coursework to earn a Master of Science (MSN) degree in this specialty area of nursing deepens students’ understanding of topics such as neonatal physiology, pathophysiology and family dynamics.  Students further acquire hands-on knowledge through field experiences that enable them to work in settings similar to those in which they will be employed once they complete their graduate programs.  Their studies typically prepare neonatal nurse practitioner students to treat babies from birth until about age two.

While earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree qualifies individuals to receive their nursing license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing, those who earn MSN degrees may be licensed as nurse practitioners.  Licensure requires successfully passing the required nursing examination. 

Once they are licensed, neonatal nurse practitioners can seek national certification through the National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties (NCC).  To qualify for this certification, professionals must have at least 24 months of experience and at least 2,000 in-service hours.
