Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program in Nebraska - NE

Registered nurses in Nebraska who are looking for a position that allows them greater independent responsibilities and the ability to make judgment calls in treating newborns and infants may want to consider enrolling in neonatal nurse practitioner programs within the state or online. The education required for this position by the Department of Health and Human Services in Nebraska is no less than a master’s degree with a concentration in the specialized curriculum of a neonatal nurse practitioner. A graduate curriculum in this specialty consists of classes such as nursing theory, nursing research, advanced neonatal assessment, neonatal pathophysiology, neonatal pharmacology, neonatal health assessment, neonatal health promotion, and managing illness in neonates. National certification must also be achieved through a test sponsored by the National Certification Corporation following graduation.

In addition, the state of Nebraska requires that all nurse practitioners complete at least 500 hours of a clinical practicum concentrated in their area of expertise. Examples of possible settings for clinical practicums in Nebraska include Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln, Lincoln Surgical Hospital in Lincoln, Alegent Healthcare in Omaha, Children’s Hospital and Medical Center of Omaha, and the Alexis Verzal Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital at Madonna in Lincoln.
