Physician Assistant Education in Nevada - NV

There are over 63,000 health care workers in the state of Nevada at last count. Nevada currently has over thirty hospitals scattered across the state. This is an increase of almost 30% from a decade ago making health care, and particularly physician assistant jobs, highly demanded. Nevada has experienced a health care shortage in the primary care sector with a 13.3 percent estimated underserved population as reported by statehealthfacts.org. This shortage, along with the increase in the number of hospitals built in Nevada makes it a good state to seek employment as a Physician Assistant (PA).  Physician Assistant schools in Nevada are expecting to meet this demand with higher enrollment into their programs.

The first requirement is to receive at minimum, an associate degree that qualifies for the prerequisite course of study in order to enroll in one of the accredited Physician Assistant schools in Nevada.  These programs will require approximately two and a half more years of study.

Course work designed to give the PA understanding in diagnosing a patient, much as a physician would include:

  • Anatomy
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathophysiology
  • Clinical medicine
  • Physical diagnosis

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Physician Assistants in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Spring Valley Hospital, Sunrise Hospital, Desert Springs Hospital and Northern Nevada Medical Center.
