How to Become a Radiology Tech in New Jersey - NJ

Once you have received a certificate or degree in radiology technology, the next step is to apply for the national certification examination. This test is administered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and is considered the standard in certification for radiology technologists. An application packet, supporting materials, and an exam fee ($150) are all required to be submitted prior to scheduling an appointment to sit for the exam. This information can all be found on the ARRT website at www.arrt.org.

New Jersey is a state that requires licensure for its radiology technologists. Licensure is governed by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Radiation Protection and Release Prevention division. The Bureau of Radiological Health website (www.state.nj.us/dep/rpp/tec/index.htm) provides specifics regarding the application process for licensure. There is an application fee of $60.00 and renewal (every two years) is $90.00. If for some reason you did not take or successfully complete the ARRT exam, then you will be required to take the state licensure examination for New Jersey and pay an additional fee.
