Healthcare Administration Program In New Mexico - NM

Many people dream of working inside a hospital, but their dream doesn’t necessarily include wearing a lab coat. Healthcare administrators serve in a management role, making decisions that facilitate medical services for patients and a productive environment for healthcare practitioners. New Mexico has a number of healthcare management degree programs, both campus-based as well as online learning education programs, for those who are interested in a healthcare administration education program.

A master's degree in healthcare management is the standard academic credential for this field, although a bachelor's degree is adequate for some entry-level positions or situations at smaller medical facilities. A healthcare management degree curriculum typically includes medical ethics, infectious disease management, working with HMOs and insurance plans, along with typical MBA criteria. A school should be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

Master’s degrees in business administration and healthcare administration, with undergraduate degrees in anything from biology to nursing are common. The curriculum for an advanced degree in healthcare administration generally covers the basic concepts and methods of epidemiology; statistics and quantitative methods in health administration, including biostatistics; economics; healthcare law and regulations; administration for medical services; finance and accounting for health care; organizational planning for medical facilities; community health organizations, and other topics. Students are also required to complete a residency.
