According to New York State law, there are two acceptable paths to meeting the educational requirements for becoming a dental assistant:
- Complete a one-year (24 credit hour) educational program including biomedical sciences, professional dental assisting, clinical training, courses on oral and written communication modes and at least 200 hours of experiential clinic time. - OR complete an alternative educational course that has been approved by the New York State Education Department along with 1000 supervised hours of work experience.
